The cost of insulin in the United States more than doubled between 2002 and 2013, according to a study recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
As Reuters points out, the cost of other diabetes medications rose as well, but spending on insulin in 2013 was more than all of those other drugs combined. During the time period the researchers analyzed, the average cost of insulin increased from $4.34 to $12.92 per mL, and annual spending on insulin per patient increased from $231.48 to $736.09.
