Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) are conducting a double-blind human clinical trial in the hopes of finding a cure for diabetes.
The focus of the trial is on the high blood pressure medication Verapamil, which was found to reverse diabetes in mice. The UAB trial aims to see if the same results will hold true for humans.
“We really need volunteers,” Fernando Ovalle, MD, the director of UAB’s Comprehensive Diabetes Clinic and the Co-Principal Investigator of the study, told local news station WIAT. “We really need to know whether what has been found in the laboratory actually applies to humans.”
