Lorenzo Smith Receives FASEB’s Howard Garrison Advocacy Fellowship

Endocrine Society member Lorenzo Smith, a PhD candidate at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah, has been selected as a Howard Garrison Advocacy Fellow through the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB).

This program is designed to train and support scientists seeking opportunities to learn more about the policymaking process and how they, as scientists, can engage with elected and non-elected officials and the public.

Skill and knowledge development in science policy and advocacy is rarely included in scientific training. As a coalition that represents 22 biological and biomedical scientific societies including Endocrine Society, FASEB provides opportunities that support and strengthen biological and biomedical research.

Upon completing the 10-month fellowship, the fellows will have received instruction in advocacy, science policy, science communications, leadership development, and career exploration outside academia.

Smith is one of nine 2024 recipients of this fellowship.
