Findings by scientists at Tulane University point to low testosterone levels in men as being a risk factor to developing type 2 diabetes, according to a story in The New Orleans Times-Picayune.
The Tulane researchers, who published their findings in the journal Cell Biology, suggest that testosterone helps men regulate their blood sugar levels by activating insulin production in the pancreas. These findings have the potential to identify new type 2 diabetes treatments in men with low testosterone caused by old age or prostate cancer.
