Sneak Preview of the October Endocrine News

EN1016_cover-hires

As the “Year of Endocrinology” continues while we celebrate 100 years of the Endocrine Society, October is devoted to hormones and cancer. As it has done throughout 2016, Endocrine News is following suit with an issue devoted to this important topic:

  • Cautiously Optimistic. As survival rates from pancreatic cancer slowly inch upward, a new drug therapy may offer patients a brighter outlook.
  • Tumor Recall. Literal headlines were made a few months ago when an encapsulated follicular variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma was classified as a non-cancerous thyroid tumor by an international panel of experts.
  • Saving Face? Although it’s an “off-label” procedure that has only been mastered by a handful of surgeons in the U.S., some patients are opting for a robotic transaxillary thyroidectomy simply to avoid a prominent scar.
  • A Pervasive Threat. A new study presented at ENDO 2016 revealed a possible link between bisphenol A exposure in utero to breast cancer later in life. In the process, the researchers created a new bioassay that can test chemicals much faster than typical animal studies.

There will also be a plethora of information on the latest research, members in the news, the Society’s advocacy activities, the top tips for grant-writing success, and much more!
